Excerpts
1:
Curiosity filled his head and a chill came over him - a skin-crawling chill - a goose-bumps kind of chill. It felt like energy leaving his body - like that caused by some paranormal event. He turned and looked back to the spot in the water where the shimmering object had caught his eye. Breathing heavily, he jogged back to take a closer look and spotted it again - something gold - slithering, washing in and out with the tide. From his vantage point, it reminded him of a tiny, thin water snake or seaweed perhaps. The closer he got, however, he realized it wasn't a water snake at all, nor was it a piece of seaweed. It was a gold chain with some sort of pendant attached to it. He waded into the shallow water, leaned down and took the chain up into his hand. The pendent was in the shape of a heart with small braids around the edge. As he looked curiously at it, he felt that strange chill come over his body again.
2:
He glanced around in a panic - spinning his body in a three-hundred-and-sixty degree motion. He flailed his arms, searching for something to grab onto - anything to save him. All he could see was darkness and the cold, choppy ocean water enveloping him. His arms felt like he'd bench-pressed two hundred pounds twenty times - aching, throbbing. He panicked, wondering how this could be happening. He kept thinking about his sailboat, hoping to see it, or some remnant of it, so he could use it to save himself.
