Love should never be a choice between family and the man who’s claimed your heart.
A warrior’s life is the only one Kiera’s known since her psychic brethren adopted her from the streets as a child. Though she possesses equal preternatural ability and fighting skills, they will always see her as their youngest and in need of protection.
According to their leader’s psychic vision, her twofold destiny includes saving a computer prodigy’s life and a mate who pulls her from death’s clutches. Carlin, an electronics genius, develops software/hardware which could destroy any government. Without malicious intent, he seeks to prove possibilities beyond his current reality. Bored with the aspects of his social life, he yearns for a family.
When Kiera saves Carlin from the clutches of a psychic terrorist who stalks him for his program and skills, neither is prepared for the immediate connection formed. From the first skirmish, both their lives are caught up in a maelstrom of danger and desire. Kiera struggles to keep Carlin and his work from the terrorist who wants to destroy the U.S. while resisting the extraordinary attraction between them.
Can Carlin convince her they were meant for each other and survive her warrior brethren?

Leyna padded forward and sniffed Carlin’s shoes, jeans, then hands. The dog took her time to investigate. Stare for stare, she made him fidget like a child, her obvious intelligence unnerving. Only by the grace of God did he resist the urge to check his shirt for food stains and zipper for closure. He spoke to Kiera without daring to break the white creature’s gaze.
“Should I offer them a dog biscuit, milk bone, my lower leg?” Said in jest, the sheer size and strength, not to mention their obvious intelligence inspired wariness if not outright fear. He decided to always wear heavy denim jeans in their presence. It might ruin the taste.
“They’re just curious, and your misguided levity is lost on them. They won’t hurt you as long as you don’t give them a reason.”
As if to emphasize her point, Leyna placed one foot on either side of his hips and lifted to within inches of his face. He didn't move. When she gave a long lick from jaw to temple, he merely closed his eyes and prayed. Is she just sampling or is this her version of marinating? His eyes flew wide when Kiera chuckled.
"See…she likes you."
"Which is why she's sharing all the resident pathogens that call her mouth home sweet home." Carlin knew another moment of panic when his stomach growled. "Just my stomach, Leyna. My. Stomach." The dog whined and got down before padding away.
Next, Raptor sauntered over to Carlin with his head tilted to one side. One paw and then the other landed in his groin. Oh shit. I'd rather take my chances with the microscopic beasties in Leyna's mouth. The shepherd moved up until their faces were inches apart. Carlin guessed his weight—ounces less than a ton. His massive head held the look of frightening intellect. One side of his lip curled up in as if in disdain while a quiet snarl rumbled from deep in his chest.
What fresh hell is this? Clearly, this beast does not approve. Carlin swallowed around the lump in his throat which precluded him from taking a breath.
After what felt like years, his gaze flicked over to Kiera. He wasn’t amused with her passive attitude while her protector decided whether or not he was on tonight’s menu. When the dog took his paws off Carlin’s groin, he wondered how long he’d sing falsetto.
As if having the last laugh, Raptor stuck his nose in Carlin’s groin. The disdainful snort before moving on to investigate the rest of the office made Carlin shudder.
With a deep steadying breath, he looked at Kiera objectively—still stunning. He still wasn’t prepared for the wide set blue eyes, delicate arched brows, slim straight nose, or skin lightly tanned from the sun. In close proximity, her most arresting feature captured his attention. Her full, soft lips were shaped to fit his to a T. Really? My mind wants to go there before becoming a human doggy biscuit?
The long, thick braid stopped at her waist. The snug fitting pants and close fitting vest accentuated her well-defined curves. Her overall beauty derailed the track of his conversation, his concentration erratic. Thoughts of what she’d look like without clothes pounded his brain from all sides. Good Lord. Get a grip!
Kiera’s presence affected him in ways no woman ever had. The fact he could talk when his body fluid migrated to his southern hemisphere astonished him. The goofy grin he knew plastered his face sobered as Raptor sent another rumble his direction. The visualization of fumbling with a catheter to void was the equivalent of a cold shower.
