Review: The Carnelian Legacy by Cheryl Koevet

Marisa McCallum has just lost her father. In her aftermath of the funeral, she goes for a ride and gets zapped into another world. Discovered by 2 noblemen, she accompanies them for safety and gets dragged into the world's politics for good measure.

The Carnelian Legacy started strong, with a decent female character and concept. I have always loved stories that send people to another world. Unfortunately the concept is squandered with some serious 'romance novel issues' and not good 'romance novel issues'. I think of it as fan fic rendering of a Barbara Cartland novel set of issues.

Another problem involves Marisa. She mood swings so fast that my head span. She loves him, she hates him, she wants to go home, she wants to stay, she cries about Dad (okay I could forgive her that one) she's upset that he's got to marry some princess, she wants him to marry some princess and the pretty dresses really capture her attention. Marisa is a pretend independent woman. She makes some token protests against marriage and babies forever but the rest of the time she's in floods of tears about this hot guy. It becomes annoying.

And don't even get me started on the end. Talk about your deux ex machina... this little baby took the cake.

It's a shame because several of the characters are well written and I enjoyed reading about them, but the main character and the plot holes really ruined it for me.
