A college freshman finds himself dreaming about a doomed fantasyland. He resolves to be the one to save it.
Oh I wanted to like this book, I really did. It had all of the elements that make for a great adventure story. Danger, bad guys, action, other worlds. It had all of the right ingredients, but unfortunately the writing completely lets it down.
The characters are bland, uninteresting and fade into the background. The action is described in choppy sentences and a lot of the more crucial bits of the book are reduced to one sentence that basically boils down to 'then this happened and this and I will describe that I survived after the fact'.
There is a good book in here struggling to get out, but it's held back by poor pacing, characterisation and some poor writing.
It feels unfinished and I had no feeling for any of the characters. I skim read most of the latter half of the book as it did not make me care to find out how it would end.
