This book was written by SKYLER PATTERSON, Author of :THE BOOK OF SWORDS series!
A: There were 2 inspirations for The Last Kraken. One was the scene in the movie “Pirates Of The Caribbean Dead Man’s chest.” There was a scene where a Kraken was attacking a ship! That stuck in my mind. Then in the summer of 2013 there was a documentary that was about a real Kraken that was found! By that time i had stumbled upon the possibility of writing. I decided to develop these ideas into a story and my first ebook became a reality. I get my ideas from everywhere. I get them from movies, documentaries, even comic books, and paintings and pictures. The story idea for Revenge Of the Wolf came from a book cover!
Q: Do you have a dream cast for your book?
A: Oh Yeah! Captain Slaymore Seaborne: The animated Beowulf’ movie’s superb screaming,character/ voice actor Ron Witestone as Captain Slaymore! Or Liam Neeson! Or both! Liam as Slaymore and Ron as Grinn Wavefolly! Or get this: Russell Crowe as Captain Slaymore Ron Witestone as Grinn! Cate Blanchett could easily play Gale Storming Seaborne! And as the flamboyant young upstart Captain Conceitious: “Lord Of The Rings: Five Armies LUKE EVANS as THE BRAVE CRAB! Or Jon Snow KIT HARRINGTON could kill that part!
Q:How do you handle writers block?
A: This is what i found is the secret to that dreaded demon! TIME! Rule number one: Never try to force out chapters! IT NEVER WORKS! It will just read like chapter filler! What i have learned that chapters should be filled with parts of an unfolding plot that builds up and ends in a meaningful way that moves your story forward. That cannot be rushed. If you cannot find the magic WAIT FOR IT! When i was writing Revenge Of the Wolf i cleared my desk of all other projects and submerged myself within the world of that tale. What happened ? In my mind it was the best thing since caviar! And when i faced a block i wrote through it. What was i left with? CRAP! DUNG! I was spending all my time in that world everything was hypnotizingly fabulous! And then i decided to take a break. I returned in a few weeks. When i turned on the laptop i located the crap right away! I began to see all of the filler and mistakes jumping out off of the pages at me! Then i began to look with a “FRESH EYE”! What did i do? I gutted the book! I removed the crap and added what was needed. It was a Romance /horror story with none of those things! I ADDED THEM! I added new characters and uncovered a gorgeous theme! I added bold ideas! And what was i left with? MY FIRST BEST SELLER! Books can be like wine! They get better with time!
Q: What inspired you to write this book?
A: Seeing this Kraken creature in Pirates Of The Carrabbean “Dead Man’s Chest” and in a documentary. They found a real one in 2013! The History Channel!
Q: What is the hardest part of being a writer?
A: The hardest part is trying to guess what readers will like to read about. Yet one thing will never change: People love a great story! Thank you for your questions. Warmest regards Skyler Patterson..
