Gathering Frost is a great read with a great female protagonist. Jade was only a small girl when the earthquake hit New York and magic came into the world. Entranced by the beautiful queen that appears before her, Jade leaves her mother and is swept into her cold embrace. Years pass and the Queen's magic has frozen Jade's soul. No laughter, no love touch her, until she meets the queen's son, a prince who has joined the rebels.
I loved this book. It's got action, romance and a wonderful female character. Jade is a warrior, the only female in the queen's guard. She's confident and focused. Her desire for freedom is subdued and you can see the war between hidden desires and the magic that controls her.
I loved the idea of the two world's colliding and the magic.
Unlike most romance books, I didn't roll my eyes too much at the insta-love because it really wasn't. There were a couple of moments when I squinted at the text, but these were so small, it doesn't really worth mentioning. I loved this and will definitely be buying this as a paperback and will be reading the next in the series.
