Since the events of Artificial Absolutes, Jane has started to follow her dream to be a composer and her relationship with Adam seems to be progressing, yet when Adam starts having horrific dreams of murder which turn out to be true, Jane must throw herself into danger again for the one she loves. Incredibly, Jane's brother Devin is leading a team of ISARK operatives in order to dissemble the man she loves.
Well Synthetic Illusions turned out to be every bit as good as Artificial Absolutes, with more cyberpunky goodness, cool secondary characters and a great protagonist.
Mary Fan is a great sci-fi writer, it may be true that there isn't a great deal of 'hard science' in the book, but she's brilliant at setting a believable future. Thoughts of humanity and God versus science are wonderfully placed alongside action and the book is not dull.
Each of the characters are incredibly good, with a new female character, who is so many shades of awesome that I can't tell you.
On the flip side, it can get a little confusing at times, but I stress this is not a out and out negative.
A brilliantly, exciting read by Mary Fan.
I'm off now to buy the third book.
