This book is beautifully and lushly written. Its gripping, romantic, fiery and dark all at the same time and I freely admit that I love it.
Maya lives in the closed, vicious world of her father's harem and is victim of a horoscope that foretells that she will be married to death and destruction. With such a dire portent attached to her, she is viewed with fear and suspicion. When her father decides to marry her off, her life alters in ways she could not have imagined.
Okay... Let's start with the writing. Its beautiful, lush and evocative. The plot is well thought out and the Indian folklore and fantasy elements are wonderfully interwoven.
The characters:
Maya was interesting, a strong character with a definite vision for herself and her own ideals. There were a couple of moments where she shows a distinct lack of critical thought but all in all I loved her.
Amar was made of win and deliciously sexy. Loved his character.
Kamala was fascinating.
The other characters were not as well drawn as the primary pair, but that is more down to the plot's focus on Maya and her journey.
The romance is swoon worthy and beautiful.
I cannot praise this book enough... Buy it.. read it... .love it.
