Excerpt:

Later that night I met with Chris and Ryan at a bar for an update. We were nowhere closer to finding Gabby’s dad or the rebels’ location. We agreed I should join them soon for some fun out in the field.
“Wow, did you notice her legs, man?” Chris snapped me out from my thoughts. “That Gabby is hot, the way that little dress fit her the other day.”
“A pain in the ass is what she is,” I said. “But yeah, she’s hot.”
Chris and I smiled and Ryan rolled her eyes. “Of course you two would go for beauty over brains.”
“She doesn’t seem dumb to me,” I said. “Immature when vengeful, maybe, but not dumb.”
“No, I guess not. But it’s typical of you two to drool over any girl who shows some skin.”
“If they don’t grab our attention, Ry, how are we supposed to give them any of our time?” I asked.
“Especially time to find out how smart they might be under their clothes?” Chris laughed and gave me a fist bump.
“So that’s how a girl gets attention? That’s what makes you two care who they are as a person?”
Chris and I nodded. “Pretty much, yeah,” I said, still laughing.
“Jerks,” Ryan said, and narrowed her eyes.
“I think Kevin here will find out just what she has going on in her brain and other parts soon though,” Chris said.
“Me? Nah. She can’t stand me.”
“You said yourself she’s being nice.”
Ryan got up. “I’m heading home. You two stop plotting to sleep with Gabby. She’s under our protection. No messing around.”
“You’re too hung up on rules, Ry. Go out and live a little,” Chris said, smiling. He then turned to me. “And you, just kiss her and shut her up next time she starts bitching.”
I watched Ryan leave, then nodded to Chris. “If she goes without sleeping for a while again and I get desperate, I just might.”
