Interview
1. Where do you get your ideas?
My story ideas come to me in a variety of ways. The most frequent way is through my dreams. Sometimes, entire scenes of my story will play out while I am sleeping and I will have to get up in the middle of the night and write them down. I also find inspiration in music, movies, books, and in day-to-day life.
2 Do you have a dream cast for your book?
I believe that I create like a screenwriter, so I do often have an actor or actress in mind as I am writing a story. In this series, I can imagine Riley Keough as Tremble and Sandra Bullock as Jasmine. The character of CeCe, as the story says, was modelled after the likeness of Cher. Bridget is definitely very much like Bette Midler.
3. How do you handle writer’s block?
I really don’t get writer’s block. Sometimes, I get tired of writing and need to take a break. But, I still have plenty of ideas rolling around in my head waiting to come out of my fingertips. In my early career, I was a newspaper reporter and had to write every day no matter what. I believe that is one reason why I do not get a “block” today.
4. What inspired you to write this book?
My last series, the Legends of Graham Mansion, was a time travel mystery series with a paranormal twist. The characters spent a good deal of time in the 1800s around the Civil War era. I had begun The Enchanted Journey before I wrote that series and was anxious to create a world for my characters to live in. While I was writing Legends, I also read a wonderful series called Witching Savannah by J.D. Horn. I loved the magical realism of his story and the way that he made the characters seem like someone you might know in your own neighborhood, just with vast powers. Reading that series was the fuel to help me create my own world.
5. What’s the hardest part of being an author?
For me, the hardest part is having the time and energy to write. I work a full-time job that is quite involved and often do not have the energy to stay up and devote the hour or so each night that I would like to have to my next story.
